Nigerian Football Star Tragically Dies During Game In Sudan
Sun Mar, 07 2010

A former Nigerian U-23 star footballer, Endurance Idahor, yesterday collapsed on the pitch and later died at the hospital in Sudan during a league match.

The Sudanese Premier League match-up between El-Merriekh and Al-Amal, Nigerian-born forward Endurance Idahor was rushed to hospital after a challenge from a fellow player left him on his back, unable to breathe.

Despite the teams' best efforts to see that the striker was given treatment as quickly as possible, the 23-year-old is said to have passed away inside the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Players, coaching staff and the 30,000 supporters stood in disbelief as the referee whistled the end of the match.

El-Merreikh Club officials said that the player will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, early medical reports state that a heart attack is the most likely cause of death.

The club released a brief announcement describing the player as "An example of a professional and committed individual and a symbol of loyalty" and added, "We will assure that justice takes place."

Endurance Idahor joined El-Merreikh from Nigerian outfits Dolphin in 2006, loaned to Al-Nasser of UAE for one season and since his return he became a key figure in the first team squad scoring over 67 goals, leading the club to their first CAF confederation cup final since 1989.

It remains to be seen whether the rest of week 3 matches taking place on Sunday will be postponed or not.

Life has a lot to offer when properly utilized. This young man has made and left an indelible mark in the sand of time. What a motivator and a rare player.Though, if i must confess, life would have allowed you more time with us, to feel you more closely. Well since God has the final say, we leave all things to him. I pray that God give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May the atletic soul of E. Idahor rest in perfect peace. Amen.

May Endurance Idaho's soul rest in peace. The story of Heart attack, myocardial infarction, for a sports man i will not buy its inconceivable, arrhtymia from possible cardiomyopathy likely but the real deal is to properly scrutinize the attackle that led to the fall. Cervical lesion and the quality of first attendants and skills should be thoroughly scrutinized.

May Idahor's soul rest in peace. But it is lamentable that a cool talent like this young man was not utilized by Nigeria within his brief career. Perhaps he was not the loud type, and not among those who bribe their way through. But this tells a lot about a country that hopes to make a name in the current day international soccer. It is a pity.

I am a Sudanese fan of ElMarik by birth. All my life I was never confident in any game to score before our beloved Idahore. During his time with us we were always ready to score at any time in the game and god knows how many times he saved us. Nigerians will never believe how much we love him and how much we are going to miss him. In today's news in Khartoum a 13 years old boy fan of him have hanged him self leaving his mom and dad in real tragedy. May Alla bless him for planting happiness in our lives during the last 5 years
